Funny Bomb Kill (FBK) is looking for a Lighting Operator — not just part of the crew. Part of the show.
Lighting is the difference between an open mic and a show.
And at FBK, lighting doesn't just support the show — it performs in it.
THE JOB
Our regular Sunday show runs 7:00 PM — ~9:00 PM, with roughly 30 minutes of pre-show before cameras roll.
You run the room:
- —Stage looks for stand-up — clean, focused, cinematic in a dark room.
- —Walk-on lights and walk-offs. When a comedian hits the stage, the room changes.
- —The red light. The cutoff. Timed with the host — you'll get good at it.
- —Crowd washes, segment looks, special moments, the opening and the closing.
- —Blackout discipline while cameras roll.
THE SEAT REVEAL
This is the big one.
After a comedian performs, the entire row goes dark. Every seat. Every light on the row — off.
Then their placement gets decided — funny, bombed, redemption, or killed — and when the cue comes in, you light the chair.
One seat, lit up, revealing to the comedian — and the whole room — exactly where they just landed.
No lit chair = no placement.
That reveal is one of the biggest moments of every single set — and it's yours.
Don't worry — you'll get the cue. We practice this until it's muscle memory.
MAJOR MOMENTS
Some cues have to be hit, every time:
- —The moments right before and after a bomb.
- —The build-ups.
- —The interruptions.
- —The seat reveal.
- —Walk-ons, walk-offs, the red light, the close.
- —Special shows — the Comedy Rumble, the mega events, the holiday specials.
Fast. Attentive. On cue. That's the job.
PERSONALITY THROUGH LIGHT
Here's the fun part: the lighting op is a character of the show.
Once you know the show, there's room to be funny with it. See something in the room worth highlighting? Highlight it. Over time, the audience learns your quirks — the little lighting moments that are yours.
The major moments always come first. But in between? That's where you get to play.
WE PRACTICE — A LOT
Nobody's expected to nail the seat reveal on day one.
We rehearse. We run cues. We do full chemistry rehearsals with the whole crew — camera, audio, host, everyone — until the timing lives in your hands.
Yes, we practice. A lot. We'll figure it all out together — pretty easily.
